Information for parents

Dear parents,

Welcome to www.jetfriends.com.
The following pages contain information about JetFriends.

What is JetFriends?

Children are getting more mobile all the time, and they are surrounded by technology. To provide an exciting and fun way to introduce kids to the fascinating world of flying, help them to gain a better understanding of technology and acquaint them with the different aspects of the Lufthansa Group, we have set up a new club for children and teenagers known as JetFriends. JetFriends addresses interested children and teenagers in a manner appropriate to their age and explains complex concepts and technological processes.

Anyone between the ages of 2 and 17 is welcome to join. JetFriends is free of charge. After registering, the children and teenagers receive a welcome letter along with a JetFriends Card. Each member is automatically registered in the Miles & More programme, and the Club Card offers all Miles & More advantages. For more information on Miles & More, go to: www.miles-and-more.com

The "Terminal" category gives children and teenagers a behind-the-scenes look at air travel and Lufthansa's service activities. We explain all aspects of our work, from an introduction to individual occupations to an explanation of technical concepts. We even provide an interactive view of the Lufthansa fleet.

The "Beyond Borders" category provides information on various cultures and sights to be explored in the most interesting travel destinations around the world, along with topics relating to the environment and social responsibility.

The "Workshop" category looks at air travel from a scientific perspective. It provides instructions for craft projects and experiments, with topics ranging from different types of paper aeroplanes to learning the aviation alphabet.

The "Games" category offers an ever changing selection of online games, contests and downloads. "Meeting Point" is a closed area where registered users can receive a personal e-mail address and chat with other members in forums. We continuously update the content of these web pages and add new information.

Children and the Internet

The use of new media has become a familiar and necessary part of everyday life for many children. In addition, children today need these skills for school and, later on, for job training. They use the Internet to search for information, communicate with friends and, of course, to play games. Children want to have fun online. As their parents, you want the Internet to be a safe place. To ensure this, our editorial staff continuously monitors the JetFriends site. However, children and teenagers need to be aware of a few simple rules as well as the possible dangers involved.

1. In general, you should always practice responsible use of the Internet with your child. Explain the importance of following the privacy rules and tell your child never to reveal personal information such as his or her name and address.

2. Tell your child never to share his or her personal password, not even with his or her best friend.

3. Explain that the people with whom your child comes into contact online are not personal acquaintances and that they don't always tell the truth.

4. Make sure your child understands that he or she should never go alone to meet a person he or she knows from the Internet.

5. Ask your child to tell you about his or her new experiences online. Encourage him or her to tell you about any new online friends he or she has made. From time to time, monitor your child as he or she surfs the web to get an idea of what he or she is doing.

6. Explain to your child that, while the Internet is filled with many interesting things, it unfortunately also has some bad things. Encourage him or her to talk to you about things that make him or her uneasy.

In the terms and conditions of use, we have provided a number of JetFriends rules ("Netiquette"), which you should go over with your child.
