Great tips for your birthday party

Is it your birthday soon and you want to invite your friends to a plane party? We’ve got a few tips for you!

Plane invitations

A birthday party starts with the invitations, so why not make your own original plane invitations with your parents? Use the template from our Lu & Cosmo Birthday Craft Set. Your friends will see how cool your party is going to be as soon as they see the invitations!

Plane paper chains and mini airport

Now you need the right decorations for your party. Try making your own plane paper chains or the Lu & Cosmo bunting using our template. Use them to decorate the room where your party will be. Window pictures are a good idea too! If you still have a few large and small planes in your toy box, simply place them on the table to create your own mini airport.

Little treats

You can also offer your friends a few crunchy cookies in a plane design! These plane-shaped cookies round off the airport table perfectly. Your mum or dad will surely help you with the baking!

Plane cookies

What you need:

  • 500 g flour
  • 15 g baking powder (or 1 sachet)
  • 125 g sugar
  • 8 g vanilla sugar (1 sachet)
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 egg
  • 250 g margarine
  • A little flour for rolling the dough out; food colouring; coloured edible decorations

What you have to do:
Mix the flour and the baking powder. The margarine ought to be at room temperature so that it is nice and soft. Add the sugar, vanilla sugar and a pinch of salt to the margarine and mix it all together with the hand mixer.
Then add the flour and baking powder mixture and the egg to make a proper dough. Then knead everything well with the dough hook of the hand mixer. When the dough is ready, cover it well with cling film and let it rest for half an hour in the fridge.

Afterwards, roll the dough out thinly on a little flour. Then use the plane cutter to cut out the cookies and place them on a baking tray that is lined with baking paper.
Once the oven is pre-heated to 200 degrees Celsius you can put the tray in the oven. You only have to bake the cookies for 8-12 minutes on the middle shelf until they are golden brown. Make sure that they don’t burn!
They are still too hot to decorate straight out of the oven. Wait for them to cool down and then get the food colouring! Now you can get creative. Have fun!

Tip:

You can also put the cookies in party bags for your friends. Just take a nice napkin and put a few of your yummy cookies in the middle. Then join the four corners at the top and make a knot with a short piece of ribbon to hold them together.
Every guest can then take a little party bag home with them. That way they’ll still think of your brilliant party the next day when they open the cookies!

Games and crafts all about flying

Do your friends also like doing crafts? Then fold some paper aeroplanes together, decorate them colourfully and then fly them in the garden.
You can have an exciting competition: which plane can fly the furthest? The winner gets a small prize. It is just as much fun to fly a remote-controlled helicopter or plane. Do you have one or know somebody who does?

No truly successful party is complete without some really good games! What about a balloon popping competition? Whoever can pop the most balloons in a minute wins.
Or play musical chairs! You probably know that game already, right? Everyone has to dance around a circle of chairs, but there is always one chair less than there are people. When the music stops everyone has to sit down as quickly as they can, and whoever doesn’t find a free chair is out. The winner is the one who gets the last free chair in the last round.

We hope your plane birthday party really takes off!
